Dementia friendly groups have participants who live with or understand dementia. Dementia Friendly organisations have made changes to what they do, to better support the participation of people with dementia.
Many dementia friendly groups or organisations are part of the Dementia Friendly Communities movement. This movement is raising awareness of dementia and working to make the community a more inclusive and welcoming place. If there isn’t a dementia friendly group in your community you can consider starting one. Phone Dementia Australia (1800 100 500) to make enquiries.
Some people with dementia prefer to attend dementia friendly group or activity, where people will be more accepting of their symptoms.
