Bill was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2019 and found the best way to stay positive was to become an advocate for Dementia Australia and share his story to empower others.
In partnership with his support worker, James, Bill created an inspiring video that recounts his journey thus far.

‘Enjoying life with dementia’ is an ongoing message of hope for Bill himself and others living with dementia. The video depicts Bill outlining and achieving his goals after his diagnosis of dementia, returning to volunteer lifesaving and competing in the SLR championships.
Bill dives headfirst into his training with his framework of support that includes a neuro-cognitive training program and physiotherapist, to regain and maintain a sense of agency in himself.
The payload for Bill is significant positive changes in his cognitive ability and mental health as well as regaining his mobility and fitness. This is supported and celebrated by his community.

When he first received his diagnosis at only 59, Bill became severely depressed and lost confidence. After a time of adjustment, he took it upon himself to action positive change in his life and create a support network.
As an advocate, Bill participates in a range of dementia programs and attests to seeking a timely diagnosis and getting back out into the community as positive measures to live with dementia. The fulfillment he gets from his advocacy work drove him to enter the NOVA film festival.
