5.8 Getting services – Local organisations and councils

These might offer an array of services, groups and activities

Local councils and not-for-profit organisations often provide services, groups and activities which might be of benefit. For example, some local councils provide seniors’ classes such as exercise sessions, lessons using computers or social groups that may include bus trips.

Local councils offer a wide array of other services from clean-up services and help accessing aged care services, to men’s sheds and carer respite. Local councils often have culturally specific services and groups. Many councils have an aged care worker who will be knowledgeable about what is available, and your local library can be a mine of information! Contact your local council or search the internet for the service you’re after in your locality.
